Stunning Alphabet Story

Looking for a good board book for a new baby in the family or a great holiday gift. Roy Henry Vickers and Robert Budd have teamed up to create a new board book titled A is for Anemone: A First West Coast Alphabet and it is stunning!

I will not do this book justice with my words because it is one you need to pick up and hold for yourself but I will do my best. The text by Robert Budd is lyrical with no rhyme out of place, inviting the reader through the sights and sounds of the West Coast. Although it is an alphabet book, with the first letter of each page bold and capitalized it reads as a story, a love letter to the people and creatures who live out west and a sharing in community.

Each page has traditional West Coast imagery and spot-gloss illustrations making it a total sensory experience. The colours are vibrant and almost glow off the pages. Some of the spot-gloss details are hidden and can only be seen with your fingers or a slight tilt of the book to reflect the light in just the right way. Roy Henry Vickers' art work is simple but the impact is enormous. His art contains hidden treasures making it a fun story to read and play seek and find.

This gorgeous board book is definitely on my list of books to give little ones in my life and I’m certain will be a lifelong favourite.
