The Questions Kids Want You to Ask

In a follow up to A Family is a Family is a Family, Sara O’Leary and Qin Leng remind readers that A Kid is a Kid is a Kid.

In this beautiful, heartfelt and simple story, kids wonder about all of the strange questions they are asked all of the time by grown ups. Questions like, “Where are you from?” And “Why are you so small?” All of the kids in the book counter with things they would much rather be asked and remind readers to get to know them and their peers on a deeper level.

This story is a refreshing reminder for both kids and grownups that kids are kids no matter what and they want to be asked about things that are important to them, not about the shirt they wear every day. I think grownups kind of get trapped in asking kids the same questions all of the time and this book serves as a great push to improve the way we speak to each other. A Kid is a Kid is a Kid also encourages all kids to ask thoughtful questions and to give thoughtful answers and to never undervalue to question of play.

Qin Leng, as always, beautifully illustrated this story with a diverse array of kids. Kids from different places and with different abilities. She artfully takes into account the ways kids are at home and the way they are at school and with their peers. The pages are always filled with colour and delight.

A Kid is a Kid is a Kid is another fabulous back to school book to get to know the people who the kids will be spending time with this school year.
