Arctic Animals

I can’t believe I am just finding out about the Animals Illustrated Series by Inhabit Media. This collection of non-fiction books, each focused on a specific Arctic animal is full of detail and fantastic illustrations.

Written in easy to access language, perfect for our youngest researchers, these books will help guide fascinations and school projects! Both The Bear and The Bee had to do animal projects in grade 1 and 2 and the focus was Arctic animals. I can’t believe we didn’t know about these books then as it would have been a serious help! We now know and you will too so when your readers need to do some animal research, definitely check these books out.

Written by different authors who live in the Arctic, they share their knowledge of these incredible creatures with young readers. I especially love how realistic the illustrations are. Each book contains information about the traditional uses of the animals. From how they once fed people, to how their furs and oils keep people warm during the long Arctic winters.

I was especially interested in Wolverine written by Allen Niptanatiak and illustrated by Patricia Ann Lewis-MacDougall. Full of so much interesting information about an animal that truth be told, I thought wasn’t real. I loved how there is a whole two page spread dedicated to the animal’s skeleton and the different parts that make up the wolverine. Readers get an opportunity to dive deep into the life of an Interesting species, from families to diet, hunting and fun facts, this is a book that will have your readers eager to create trivia questions to stump their friends and family or be ther subject of their next research project.

The whole series is a breath of fresh air, told from a reverence for the animals. Readers will understand and appreciate the importance of all of these Arctic creatures to the people and the ecosystem of the far north and why we need to continue to do things in our own lives to mitigate the effects of climate change that threaten these majestic creatures.
