Nostalgic and Sweet

Poetic and nostalgic, Come, Read with Me by Margaret Rufus and Christine Wei is a reminder of all of the great childhood tales for books lovers old and young.

In this lovely bedtime or cuddle time story, the reader is transported through out the land of fairytales visiting with the characters from some of our favourite stories growing up. The white rabbit, Alice, and a great white whale, all greet readers as they make their way to dreamland. There are some lovely rhymes throughout but I did find the rhythm of the story interrupted at times when the rhyming pattern changed.

What stands out about this story are the illustrations by Christine Wei. The pictures are lush and vibrant, filled with big, bold elements and hidden surprises as well. Christine Wei has created a treasure hunt of sorts through the illustrations, allowing readers to go hunting for the people and objects from familiar nursery rhymes and fairy tales. We enjoyed trying to find all the animals we could and then tried to figure out which stories they came from.
