Escape to Witch City
E. Latimer takes readers on a ride in Escape to Witch City.
Emmaline Black is the daughter of royalty. She also has a terrible secret, one that could get her excommunicated from London: she’s a witch. Her aunt, Queen Alexandria, has outlawed witchcraft and witches along with it and tests all children when they turn thirteen to ensure they have no witch blood. Emmaline fails the test and sets off on a course to save not only herself but her new found friends as well and for them all to arrive in Witch City safely.
This story didn’t stop from start to finish. The twists and turns and the horrible discoveries will keep readers on the edge of their seats. It’s a hard book to put down! The story is teeming with inspiration from revolutionary movements throughout history. In this case, E. Latimer builds a brilliant world, set in London but not as we know it: an alternate London where an evil Queen will stop at nothing to rid the world of witches, even if they include her own flesh and blood.
The book was easy to navigate and I thought the world building was brilliant. The setting changed and shifted a lot during the whole story but the foundation was solid and simple to understand. I love the way author’s are using the witch/wizard narrative and changing things up for a new generation of readers. I was sad to be finished with the story as I think there is so much more to be explored in Witch City among the witches and the people of London so here’s hoping E. Latimer is not finished with this world quite yet.
