Sundown on Earth
The days are getting shorter and the nights oh so much longer. Since we are forced to spend more hours in the darkness why not learn a little more about what happens in our environment at night. Lisa Deresti Betik and Josh Holinaty have come together to provide us with In The Dark: The Science of What Happens at Night. This wonderful non-fiction book for middle grade readers takes a look at sleep, night creatures, plants at night and the night sky.
The illustrations by Josh Holinaty that accompany all of the incredibly detailed information are humorous and exaggerated adding a lot of interest and fun to the book.
There is some excellent information in this book. Did you know that plants can do math? Or did you know that we all need a different amount of sleep depending on our age? Adults and children alike will find this book interesting and will have some great trivia questions to stump their friends at the next science trivia night! The book also contains some really important information for us to know to ensure we are not harming the local wildlife by learning about how they live at night.
