Meena’s Mindful Moment
Meena’s Mindful Moment by Tina Athaide and Ǻsa Gilland is a wonderful story to share with any child who may need some practice slowing down.
When Meena visits Dada, her hurly-burly hullabaloo zooms and spins, splashes and twirls everywhere that she goes, creating quite a mess in her wake. After a few angry villagers show up at Dada’s house, he takes some time to show Meena how to calm her hurly-burly hullabaloo.
Perfect for teaching mindfulness and showing young readers how to calm down their own hurly-burly hullabaloo’s. I love that she has incorporated deep breathing and yoga movement in the story as teachers and parents can use these hands-on techniques after reading. Showing readers that we all have a hurly-burly hullabaloo inside of us and making that separate from the actual person. The hurly-burly hullabaloo doesn’t define the person, it’s just a part of them that sometimes needs to be tamed.
Ǻsa Gilland’s illustrations are so much fun! I love the illustrations of the hurly-burly hullabaloo and the hustle and bustle of Dada’s village. Gorgeous and bright, it’s a book that readers, parents and teachers will want to revisit anytime they need a reminder to calm their hurly-burly’s.
