A Fun Circle Story

Remember that song “The Green Grass Grew All Around”? In Sangeeta Bhadra’s new picture book The Nut That Fell From the Tree, illustrated by France Cormier, you will feel like you are right in the song.

We loved how this story wove it’s way through the forest and the many forest dwelling animals who encounter the nut during their day. The story has a lovely lyrical pace, always returning to the start of the book in the house in the oak where Jill plays. You could sing this story or tell this story and your listeners will be able to help you out as the story progresses thanks to the wonderful rhyming and repetition throughout. This story will put a smile on the face of all your young readers. Not only is The Nut That Fell From The Tree a fun, cute little story but it’s also an examination of the life cycle of a tree and the forest habitat. We love it when books can be so many different things and be incorporated into many different learning opportunities!

The illustrations by France Cormier are spectacular. The art is lush and green and full of little treats as you look closely at each page. The animal’s eyes are the greatest, seemingly always in a state of alarm which is quite apropos for prey animals!
