The Eyes Tell The Story
If you are at all familiar with Jon Klassen’s Hat trilogy, you have probably been eagerly anticipating a new story. We are so pumped that The Rock From the Sky is here and contains some interesting new animals who just happen to wear hats..
As with all of Jon’s work, the eyes tell the story! In The Rock From the Sky a turtle, an armadillo/vole and a snake are enjoying their environment. Broken into five parts, readers will meet these interesting characters and spend a day with them. The turtle is a bit stubborn and the armadillo/vole type creature is relaxed, creating almost like a little rivalry between the two animals. The text is straightforward, simple language, perfect for readers of any age. It’s a thick book for a picture book so at first glance you might think it’s overly long or complicated but it is anything but. By being broken into five sections, readers can skip around and read one little story at a time without having to consume the whole story in one go. Saying that, it is a book that can easily be read in one sitting depending on the attention span of your reader. Packed with Jon Klassen’s irreverent and quiet humour, sideways glances, expressive animals, and simple situations The Rock From the Sky is a book that will be requested again and again.
