An Unusual Pet

An Unusual Pet

Lori Joy Smith’s true tale of an adopted baby lamb in We Adopted a Baby Lamb will bring joy to your heart.

The narrator Ila shares the joy of adopting a baby lamb with readers, all of the good and bad and how the lamb helps the family as they transition to a new season of life. After moving to the country the family goes to visit a baby lamb and find he needs a new family. They step right in and Albert the lamb even puts a smile on a sour teenager’s face. Albert is wonderful but a bit destructive. Ila’s family becomes his flock.

We Adopted a Baby Lamb is a story of pure joy, the book is even bright, sunshine yellow. The colours leap off the page and just sing! Lori Joy Smith share the beauty and love that comes from welcoming a pet into a family, something many families have done over the last 18 months. It’s also very practical and teaches children how important it is to take good care of the animal creatures we share the land with. We need to make sure we have the proper supplies and provide them with a safe environment.

This story totally reminds me of my sister in law who has a soft spot for unusual pets. One time she even drove across the province to adopt 400lb pig! Luckily she and my brother live on a tiny hobby farm with cats, chickens, and rabbits. I’m working on them adopting a baby alpaca!
