Keeping our Heads in the Clouds

Another fantastic book to keep your eyes on the sky and your head in the clouds.  The wonderful Stego-cumulus written by Hilary Leung illustrated by Niall Eccles and published by Scholastic Canada.

Panda and Parrot love to cloud watch.  While Panda loves to pick out all the shapes in the clouds, Parrot takes a decidedly more scientific approach to cloud watching.  Together they discover they can clarify clouds by their fun and whimsical shapes as well as their scientific names.

I love how this story blends the lightness of enjoying a day gazing at the sky with some real concrete information about the clouds and different cloud formations.  The back contains a wonderful little non-fiction cloud gazing sheet to break down the types of clouds (cirrostratus, cumulus, nimbostratus, etc) and how to spot them and what you can expect when you see them.  It's a good old fashion buddy story, perfect for your budding scientist that will keep you looking at the sky and classifying the clouds, either scientifically or creatively.

Both author and illustrator will be launching Stego-cumulus at The Toronto Comic Arts Festival this Saturday.  Check it out at 1:30 in the Yorkville Ballroom (Marriott) for some free family fun!
