Silly Take on Environmentalism

There’s a new monster in town, well actually an old monster with a new attitude.  In Kevin Sylvester’s Gargantua Jr, Gargantua has turned over a new leaf and instead of tearing things down, she’s building things up and protecting the world.  After all she needs to set a good example for Gargantua Jr. Ever eager to grow up and start helping out the world too, Gargantua Jr gets herself into a bit of trouble but with the help of Mom they get the job done together.

A fantastic and funny story about environmental stewardship and how, even when you are small, with a little help you can make a difference too.  Kevin Sylvester’s work is go engaging for your readers, always funny with eye catching illustrations that hook readers right in. The Bee really took a shining to this book because by using the pictures she was able the read this book to us, giving her confidence as a new, emergent reader and to build those early literacy skills to help her become a strong, avid reader in the future.  Kevin Sylvester’s picture books are so engaging and are so perfect for new readers. Engaging because they are a bit silly and funny with text that is easy to follow and illustrations to perfectly represent what is happening in the story. If you ever get the opportunity to hear him speak you should jump at the chance. He inspires readers and artists by sharing his craft and his love of literacy and he is so generous with his time in doing so.
