How to be a Color Wizard: Forage and Experiment with Natural Art Marking

Gifted from Penguin Random House Canada: A brilliant non fiction title to get readers out into the wide world and exploring nature and art while under the guise of being wizards: How to be a Color Wizard: Forage and Experiment with Natural Art Marking by Jason Logan with photography by Jason Fulford is the perfect book to add to your holiday list. This book is equally interesting and exciting for young readers as it is for their adults and is a book that will bring people together in exploration.

Jason Logan begins with a note to Wizard’s Assistants (ie: Parents and Guardians) to help guide the learning in the book and keep the magic fun and stress free. Then, readers get to figure out what kind of Wizard they are by completing a short quiz. Next it's onto the experiments! Broken into three distinct parts: Gather!, Transform! And Share! Readers have the opportunity to explore a plethora of activities to fuel their creativity. Each activity or recipe is broken down into easy steps with a timeframe given at the top of the page so that Wizard’s Assistants can be sure that the Wizards can achieve success given the time frame. The instructions are easy to follow and written in simple steps, including a supply list.

Jason Logan includes some excellent side bars and asides to further the learning in the book by teaching readers about real life colour wizards, life cycles and scientific facts. I LOVE how this book combines art and science to bring something to the table for all learners! STEAM for the win!

The book is heightened by the incredible photography of Jason Fulford which invites the readers into the natural world with enchanting close ups, engaging photos of children in the wild and stunning landscapes.
