How Would You Adapt to the Wild?
The Wild Robot written by Peter Brown is a many layered, cleverly written middle grade novel that you will not be able to put down.
As soon as I picked up this lovely book I couldn't stop reading. Peter Brown has developed such a fantastic idea, a robot who washes up on the shores of an island. What does the robot do? How does the robot survive? When some curious otters inadvertently activate Roz, the robot, she sets about on a journey to discover what it is to be wild. There are so many themes that jump out of this novel: acceptance, friendship, love, sacrifice, family, love, perseverance, and kindness. Every chapter begs a new question and enlightens the reader in so many different ways. At first the animals of the island are afraid of Roz and run and hide. They think she is a monster. Over time, they learn to accept Roz and even to love her. There is such a lovely message about what it is to be wild and live in a way that is true and honest. Peter Brown so brilliantly left the ending open and thankfully the story will continue with The Wild Robot Escapes to be released March 13, 2018 and I am so eagerly anticipating being able to continue Roz's story. Roz really made an impression on me, I had a hard time leaving her when I was finished reading. The Wild Robot will be a book I continually come back to. Check it out, I'm positive you will love Roz as much as I do.
