If We Tell You
Debut author Nicola Dahlin has readers on the edge of their seats in If We Tell You!
Lewis and Cameron are just regular, everyday teenagers when they find themselves on the run after their parents kill two people at a backyard barbecue. They have no idea what is going on and through a series of events begin to question their entire lives to this point. Racing through Edinburgh, trying to keep their identical twin identities a secret, meeting new people and beginning to unravel their parents' past, Lewis and Cameron face some harsh realities and interesting discoveries.
Told in alternating voices, Nicola Dahlin captures the twins individuality and their commonality throughout the narrative. As the twins try to remain concealed and act as one person, each brother’s respective traits sometimes come out at the worst possible time.
I love the build up of suspense in the story. This is not a story with a predictable outcome. Nicola Dahlin places hints and clues as well as doubts through the whole story so even if you think you know where things are going, you don’t. The unpredictability keeps readers hooked and makes for a story that’s difficult to put down.
I love how the ending of the story, wraps up this particular narrative but leaves room for a potential second or even more stories featuring the brothers and their new friends. Lewis, Cameron, Ruby and Aisha are all characters I would love to spend more time with. There are a ton of layers that can still be unraveled hopefully making for multiple sequels.
