In the story, Khadija desperately wants to be a scientist but when she struggles to find scientists that look like her, she questions whether or not she is even allowed to be a scientist. This story highlights the importance of showing young readers that they can be anything they dream of being.

I love that Khadija still conducted her experiment even though she wasn’t sure she could and how her family lovingly embraced this important part of her. Even though she made a mess, her parents lead with love and reminded her that if science was her passion, they would support her.

I love that this story takes place around Eid, an important celebration in the Muslim calendar to share with readers different cultural experiences. Those who celebrate Eid will understand the goings on before, during and after. Those who don’t celebrate have the opportunity to join in the celebration and learn a little more about the holiday.
