Lemming's First Christmas
Lemming is learning all about Christmas in Lemming’s First Christmas, a sweet new story by Jamesie Fournier and Tim Mack.
Lemming lives under a house. One day they hear singing and is very intrigued. What is Santa Claus? What is a Christmas tree? Lemming, with a little help from Qimmiq, asks all of their Arctic friends until they find the perfect tree.
Jamesie Fournier’s sweet new Christmas story is perfect for readers who will be enjoying their own first Christmas this year. Sturdy, child resistant cover and thick pages make this a book that will be able to be enjoyed for many Christmases to come. The simple text featuring all of the different animals one would find in the Arctic makes it a story that so many young readers will be drawn to. Many children love animals and especially ones they don’t get to see in their day to day lives. I appreciate how the author and publisher have included a pronunciation guide at the end of the story to help non Inuktitut speakers share the Inuktitut names for the animals with readers.
Tim Mack’s illustrations are soft and gentle using an unconventional colour palette for the holiday. Blues and purples transport readers to the Arctic where at Christmas time it is dark for most of the day.
