The Richest Cow in the World
The Richest Cow in the World by Barroux will have readers dreaming of riches beyond their wildest imaginations.
A cow is relaxing under an apple tree when a pig approaches and asks if the apples belong to them. This sets in motion a long story about what can be done with the apples and how successful the cow would be all to end up back in the place where they started.
Barroux has created a wonderful story of big dreams and successes. This story has some of my favourite things. First, it’s kind of a buddy story in the vein of Elephant and Piggie. Second, it's a circular story similar to If You Give a Mouse a Cookie. Finally, it's a tall tale like Paul Bunyan.
Barroux has seemingly taken inspiration from many beloved stories and fashioned his own unique perspective. I LOVE how this story speaks up to readers. The language is sophisticated and sharp. He dives right into the world of business and high finance through the pigs' explanations of what the cow could do with all of the apples from his tree.
There is something very funny about a cow growing a business and being a business magnate. I love how the pig makes expanding a business seem so very simple when in the end, it’s simplicity that wins the day.
The art is just divine! The simple line drawings and watery colours take readers all over the world. Through farm fields, big cities and far flung islands. The art makes this story a repeat favourite and this book will be sure to be in heavy rotation.
