Stop Lollygagging and Grab this Book

Look out!  Another Big Words, Small Stories is hitting bookshelves this Spring.  The Traveling Dustball is the second book in a three book series by Judith Henderson and T.L McBeth featuring little vignettes with big words.  Book number two features some personal favourites like: lollygagging, brouhaha, and phenomenon! Each book in the series features five vignettes and five big words.  Personally, I really love how these books teach me new words too like irksome and collywobbles!

In this story Dave and his dog Abigail go traveling all over the world on a dustball visiting places like Italy, Hawaii, China, and Switzerland.  The small stories are usually pretty ridiculous making them really accessible and interesting to young readers. Just like The Missing Donut, it reads like a comic making it perfect for independent reading but a little tricky for a read aloud, not to say it can’t be done as The Bear, The Bee and I have enjoyed many readings of The Traveling Dustball together.  T.L McBeth’s illustrations are simple and straightforward adding to the humour in the story as a whole.

The Big Words Small Stories series is so perfect if you want to enhance your vocabulary and have a good chuckle at the same time.
