Apartment 713

Apartment 713

Kevin Sylvester takes readers back in time in Apartment 713, astory about second chances, heart and home.

Jake has just moved into The Regency, a run down old apartment complex housing a cast of misfit people. Jake’s mom is down on her luck so the move to The Regency is supposed to be temporary. Jake is understandably miserable. Slowly as he begins an apprenticeship with superintendent Danny and gets to know the residents, the building begins to reveal its secrets. Jake ends up back in time to the infancy of The Regency in an effort to save the building.

Kevin Sylvester whisks readers back in time to the early 20th century and name drops several famous figures from the time who all have a connection to The Regency, Louis Armstrong, Babe Ruth, Albert Einstein, etc. It’s fun to think about these famous figures from the past and readers may be inspired to do a little bit more digging to learn more about the people in the story.

At its heart, Apartment 713 is a story about family, chosen and biological, it's about redemption and working towards something bigger than ourselves. Jake hates The Regency when he first moves in, resents having to move away from his friends and his old life. He sees its scars and not its beauty. Through the residents, he slowly comes to appreciate the building more than he did his first day there and by going back to the past, begins to understand the importance of places like The Regency. He learns that everyone has a story and stories are meant to be told, shared with others, just like the stories of the residents. When we invest in something with our hearts, we can make change and hopefully better someone else’s life.
