Hooray for Trucks!
A celebration of the very important and very fascinating construction trucks in Hooray for Trucks by Susan Hughes and Suharu Ogawa!
The trucks LOVE work but it’s time to get clean. Yikes, trucks do not like to get washed, it’s so boring! Once they learn that getting clean is an important part of their work, they line up to get ready to gleam.
Susan Hughes has written an exciting and lyrical story all about construction vehicles. In much the same way as Sherri Duskey Rinker did in Goodnight, Goodnight Construction Site, Hooray for Trucks celebrates all of the big heavy equipment that keeps construction sites humming. Parents will definitely want this story for their vehicle obsessed readers. How many of you out there have spent many hours just sitting on the sidewalk with a little one watching construction workers and trucks work? I certainly did when The Bear was younger and he would have been OBSESSED with this story as a little reader.
Susan Hughes’ rhyme is on point and flows off the tongue with incredible ease. It’s a story that you can pick up and read from start to finish without stumbling or missing a beat, plus it is SUPER fun to read. It’s an exciting celebratory story that readers will ask for again and again. I know it will be a HUGE hit with the preschoolers at my school.
Suharu Ogawa’s illustrations are colourful and bold! They leap right off the page and are full of movement. Readers will want to spend time identifying all of their favourite machines throughout the story.
