Collecting Curiosities

Collecting Curiosities

Treasures! It Fell From the Sky by The Fan Brothers is a book filled with treasures. Just as we treasure each book lovingly created by these masterful storytellers, so too do many explorers who find even the simplest treasures in their own backyards.

This is a story for the collectors. Those whose pockets are filled with bric-a-brac by the end of the day much to the chagrin of the laundry machine. What happens with all of the treasure collected by tiny hands throughout the day? I know what happens to the treasures in my house. I just discovered them all under my kitchen fridge and stove! In this story some insects find a marble that just fell from the sky. When a greedy spider claims the treasure for his own, readers get an interesting lesson on capitalism and price elasticity. It’s really not as complicated as all that. Spider learns pretty quickly that the higher the price to see the treasure, the less people are willing to see it and he is left alone with a big pile of “money”. Spider learns that it’s best to share your treasures with the world instead of hoarding them for your own gain.

After reading you will be left with a huge sigh and a spark of an idea. It Fell From The Sky will encourage all of your little treasure hunters to put their items on display. You may even end up with your very own museum right on your front lawn or in your dining room.

The Fan Brothers have created a beautiful narrative around appreciation for all of the “wonders” of the world: the big and the small. We should all be reminded to see the wonder in every day. From the little piece of sea glass to the small, sparkly paperclip that fell out of someone's pocket, there are wonders all around.

The illustrations in this story are captivating! Starting out in black and white with the only colour on just the marble that fell from the sky, then adding colour to the leaf money and then back to black and white. The illustrations take the reader on a journey just as much as the text. Pre readers will be able to access the story and enjoy their own moments of wonderment as they navigate through the illustrations.

Another beautiful treasure story that would make a perfect holiday gift!
