A sweet story about the goings on in a community kitchen and how people come together to make a meal and share it with one another. Inspired by her time volunteering at a community kitchen, Jillian Tamaki fills the pages with a diverse and eclectic cast of characters and different ingredients. There is so much movement in this story. The people seem to float around the pages, going from picking to chopping to cooking and serving. There is a lyrical flow to the text making it so wonderful to share with all your young readers. Big two page spreads sometimes with text, other times the pictures speak for themselves blend seamlessly into one another. Jillian Tamaki moves from text written on the page to text written in speech bubbles comic style. We especially love the big bold sound words that will invite the readers to join in the telling of the story with you. You will want to eat up the whole book time and time again. At each read you will notice something new, a tidbit you missed the last time. How fun is it that the end papers are recipes!! You get a delicious vegetable soup recipe on the front and a sweet and tasty apple crumble recipe on the back!!
