Super Hilarious

We have been waiting FOREVER to get our hands on Simon and Chester’s newest adventure and we were not disappointed! Simon and Chester: Super Sleepover by Cale Atkinson made us long for the time when we can have sleepovers with friends again.

In this spooktacular graphic novel, Simon and Chester have some pretty momentous events coming up. Simon has just been informed he has a haunting inspection and they rarely go well for him so he’s a bit nervous. Chester has been invited to his first sleepover ever and he’s a bit nervous. Together they create trading in programs for each other to get ready for their big days.

As soon as I brought it home from the library (our copy is on order at a local bookstore), it was picked up immediately and all things had to be delayed until the book was read. From Simon’s cute little ghost butt to Chester’s small blunders at the sleepover, this book had us smiling and laughing all the way through. Chester helps Simon prepare for his inspection with hilarious results. Simon helps Chester prepare for the sleepover with some pretty ridiculous ideas. However, the sleeping bag burrito was definitely a keeper! Sleepovers are important childhood events and can be quite scary, especially if you have never slept away from home before. Readers will be comforted by Chester’s bravery, even when he is feeling really shy and scared. We also thought it was really cool that Chester made a new friend at the sleepover. Perhaps this new friend will make an appearance again in the next Simon and Chester story. I really hope so!
