First Broom
Walking the line between scary and fun on Halloween can at times be a little tricky. First Broom by Kallie George and Joelle Murray is a sweet little story about a witch just getting the hang of her new broom.
A story in verse, a little witch is learning how to use her new broom. She’s having a hard time but when she stops and takes a breath and watches the bigger witches in the sky, the little witch and the broom start to work as a team.
Kallie George has created a short and sweet little tale about a witch perfect for a reader’s first Halloween. The story flows impeccably from page to page without a rhyme out of place. It rolls off the tongue and makes for a perfect read aloud at any time of year but especially at Halloween. First Broom is a fantastic story for a reader who is just starting to appreciate the Halloween season.. It’s not really a story that will grow with readers but it’s perfect for the preschool/kindergarten crowd to get them excited for the season, or anytime of the year because who doesn’t love witches.
Joelle Murray’s illustrations are brilliant. She lights up the pages with large two page spreads featuring all of the fall vibes necessary for a great Halloween book. The little witch looks like she could be a reader’s best friend making it a warm and inviting story for when things can get a little scary.
