Hi.

Welcome to my reviews.  Enjoy, take some time to discover a new book!  Happy reading!

Izzy Dog Days of Summer

Izzy Dog Days of Summer

We were pumped for the return of Izzy in a brand new illustrated chapter adventure, Izzy Dog Days of Summer by Caroline Adderson and Kelly Collier. Get out your sunglasses and throw on some Aretha Franklin to set the mood!

Izzy and Zoë are off to Fun in the Sun Summer Camp but when things don’t go quite their way and there is an unfortunate incident with a permanent marker, Fun in the Sun summer camp becomes No Fun in the Sun camp and the girls decide to switch gears and create their own summer camp fun. Big sunglasses, classic Rollo antics and a grumbly neighbour all feature to make this book the perfect end of summer read!

We truly can’t get enough of Izzy and her adventures. Caroline Adderson has created the perfect voice for this loveable and fallible character. The Bee and I read this story together and had many moments where we were laughing out loud making it not exactly the most calming story for a bedtime read but a perfect afternoon in the sunshine one. Short chapters and amazing illustrations make this a story perfect for readers who are just getting used to chapter books and longer format reads.

There is a lovely intergenerational storyline between Izzy and her neighbour Mr. Entwistle and the care and compassion Izzy shows to her neighbour is aspirational. Caroline Adderson perfectly captures the energetic innocence of a young child getting to know her elderly neighbour and the joy that children can bring to their elders.

When the book ended both The Bee and I were so sad to have the story end. We thoroughly enjoyed this adventure and eagerly anticipate the next one. Perhaps the Ketchup Lady could make another appearance!

Kelly Collier’s illustrations perfectly complement the text and add to the humour and joy throughout the story. Kelly has the perfect eye to find the humour in the everyday and infuse her characters and settings with a little big of magic that makes the story truly come alive.
