Crimson Twill: Witch in the Country
The delightful Crimson Twill is back in another adventure, Witch in the Country. Written by Kallie George and illustrated by Birgitta Sif, Crimson Twill is an illustrated chapter book series perfect for fans of The Princess in Black.
Crimson Twill is eagerly anticipating the arrival of her new friends from the city. Mauve, Wesley and Dusty are all on their way to spend some time with her at her home in the country. They have never been to the country so Crimson has a whole list of activities planned. When the day doesn’t quite go as expected, Crimson learns that sometimes an imperfect day is not the worst thing in the world.
The Bee and I are HUGE fans of Kallie George’s work for middle grade readers. She has a knack for keeping things fun and infusing the story with interesting and unusual characters. In the Crimson Twill series, Crimson is a witch but she is not like other witches. Her friends are similar, witches and wizards that don’t fit the typical stereotypes. I love that she shows readers how everyone can live outside the mold and our uniqueness is what makes us so special.
The story has an excellent pace and a good amount of detail to interest more seasoned readers, while also leaving room for enjoyment for readers who are just starting their independent reading journeys. It makes for a great story to read together before bedtime. Although The Bee can access this book independently, it’s a series that she most enjoys as the listener.
Birgitta Sif’s illustrations are fantastic! Engaging and light hearted, they add a ton of interest to the story, give readers an opportunity to take a break from the text and are just so gosh darn cute! She makes me want to live out in the country with Crimson and her family.
