Truly The. Worst (in the best way)

Truly The. Worst (in the best way)

Elise Gravel is one of those writers I think you either love or really don’t care for.  Her work is so irreverent but that is the beauty of it. From books like the Olga series, The Cranky Ballerina, and The Mushroom Fan Club, she has a knack for really appealing to ALL readers.  We are huge fans of her work and love that she not only writes hilarious fiction but also some amazing non-fiction as well. In her newest offering, The Worst Book Ever, she pulls out all the stops creating a hilarious book that truly is The. Worst!

Have you ever gone back and read a story your wrote as a child? We have really brilliant ideas as children and fantastic imaginations however, our work isn’t at all polished. When you read The Worst Book Ever, it’s like reading something you wrote as a child. It’s repetitive, full of spelling mistakes, and contains as much potty humour as you can get away with. Children will be rolling on the floor laughing out loud reading this story. Not only is the story completely ridiculous but the running commentary from the spider, blob, and monster pointing out all the flaws, is equally hilarious. If you have a reader who is just not into picking up a book and reading, leave this in a visible place in your home and see what happens. A graphic story with truly horribly, humourous illustrations it reads as something a child has written and illustrated. It offers the reader a chance to laugh and be entertained and that is exactly what we want to provide to our readers in the hopes they will become lifelong readers for pleasure. Elise Gravel’s work is so wonderful, we cannot help but chuckle and just simply enjoy the books she has written. Also, if you are an educator take a minute to head to her website, http://elisegravel.com/en/ where she has some incredible posters you can download and display in your classrooms. Her work is inspirational and reminds your students/children that everyone matters, everyone is unique.
