It's Okay to Say No!

There is nothing better than coming home to a little surprise in your mailbox after a long day of running around.  Thanks so much Hilary Leung for sending along an advance copy of Will Ladybug Hug! I have been eagerly anticipating this delightful little book, one because I love the first two books in the series and two because Will Ladybug Hug? is an incredibly timely and important book for young people.

Will Ladybug Hug? is a book about consent. It’s about the importance of asking before you give hugs or any sort of physical contact and reassuring the reader it’s okay to say no thanks to a hug.  In the wonderful question and answer style, Hilary Leung creates a super fun little guessing game along with a really necessary message. If we can use some valuable, fun, straightforward resources to help our children understand something like consent, hopefully we are setting them up to be kind and considerate adults.  At a time, here in Ontario particularly, when teachings about consent are being set backwards by decades, it is necessary to have books such as Will Ladybug Hug? to help fill the gaps our education system is creating. This lively little story about consent should make its way into all classrooms and homes across North America.  It’s another way we can equip our children to understand it’s okay to say no.
