8 Tiny Reindeer

8 Tiny Reindeer

A unique story for the holiday season, 8 Tiny Reindeer by Robert Tinkler and Danesh Mohiuddin will get readers through the holidays with laughs.

The North Pole is being taken over by mega tech corporation Quickbuck Industries and the 8 tiny reindeer have gone missing. Santa has lost control and Rudolph is shilling for Quickbuck so it is up to elves Elvis and Delfina to save Christmas in 24 days.

This graphic novel has everything readers need to get them from December 1st to the 24th. An advent calendar and a story all wrapped into one, it's such a fun and unique concept. Each day there is another chapter of the story to read as we get closer and closer to the big night, building anticipation and saving parents from the expense and perhaps chocolate of a traditional advent calendar.  I love the idea of a story advent calendar and Robert Tinkler has totally delivered with a story that will appeal to so many of today’s readers. It’s also a great reminder that technology has certainly made our lives easier but we must remember to keep the magic of the holiday alive.

I also loved how Robert Tinkler incorporated different holidays into the story. The elves don’t celebrate Christmas but have their own winter time celebration just like many children around the world. What a lovely way to help readers learn and understand that Christmas isn’t the only thing happening at this time of the year and to embrace all of the different celebrations happening in their communities.

Danesh Mohiuddin’s illustrations are irreverent and so fun. He fills each panel with so much excitement and energy and perfectly captures the darkness of Quickbuck industries and the lightness of the holiday magic. The illustrations made the book feel like your new favourite holiday special.
