The Party Diaries: Fairy-Tale Puppy Picnic
Another party and another great addition to The Party Diaries series. Fairy-Tale Puppy Picnic by Mitali Banerjee Ruths and Aaliya Jaleel is a great reminder about open mindedness.
Priya is back and planning a party for her friend Dola and this time it’s for puppies! She doesn't have a dog so feels a little nervous, plus Ethan is invited and he’s not Priya’s favourite person. With excellent team work and an open mind the party is a huge success.
This book is perfect for the budding entrepreneur. Priya plans parties for her friends and family and uses the money she makes to pay it forward and help endangered animals. In Fairy-Tale Puppy Picnic, Priya is helping the critically endangered African wild dog, fitting since she is planning a puppy party.
Mitali Banerjee Ruths brings readers a clever story with a confident and realistic main character facing all of the growing pains that one does when they are creating their own business. This story may inspire readers to plan their own puppy parties! I appreciate how in this story, Priya leans on her friends to help her out. It’s a great reminder that there are times when we can do things on our own and other times when many hands make the workload more manageable.
I love the style of this book: part graphic novel with lots of elements that amp up the interest like text message conversations, sidebars, maps and some excellent back matter to help readers plan their own party.
Aaliya Jaleel’s illustrations are vibrant and joyful. This book is such a treat to read as the illustrations really enhance the story and add interest that will keep readers returning for more party adventures.
