Anyone Can be Superhero-ish
Heather Tekavec’s books are always a hit in this house. They are funny, irreverent and touching and appeal to both The Bear (9) and The Bee (7). In her new story Arnold the Super-ish Hero illustrated by Guillaume Perreault we get to meet an everyday kind of hero and an inspiration for all readers.
Arnold comes from a super family, unfortunately he doesn’t really have any superpowers, unless you count being really good at answering the phone a super power. One day, Arnold finally discovers he does have a super power and although it’s not super speed or the ability to fly it’s more super-ish. Arnold shows readers the power of kindness and a good deed for another person and don’t we all need to focus on kindness these days. Children all can see how super it is when you help someone else.
Guillaume Perreault’s illustrations give this book a superhero comic feel with panels, speech bubbles and big bold sound words. Young readers get a taste of graphic stories plus his illustrations are so funny! There are always little Easter eggs buried in the pictures making readers want to return to the book over and over again, I know mine do!
