Binky the Space Cat

Originally released separately starting in 2009, Ashley Spires’ Binky Adventures have not only captivated the imaginations of readers, they have also been turned into a popular television show Agent Binky: Pets of the Universe. We can all celebrate because the five book Binky the Space Cat series is being rerelease by Kids Can Press as a boxed set perfect to gift to a young reader in your life.

Binky is a space cat, fighting aliens and protecting his humans. Along the way he meets other space cats and, as part of a diversity program, other space animals, they all join up and become P.U.R.S.T (Pets of the Universe Ready for Space Travel). Many hilarious shenanigans ensure making this set of junior graphic novels perfect for young readers.

When you can combine pets in hilarious situations, plus problem solving and crime fighting, readers can’t help but be hooked to these funny books. The Bear (11) and The Bee (9) both devoured them. They are perfect for readers of all levels. The Bear is an avid readers, mostly reading upper middle grade novels and The Bee is just coming into her confidence as an independent reader and both loved these books equally. They are books that will grow with readers and provide many hours of entertainment.

Ashley Spires’ art is very adorable and I love that the book’s layout includes not just speech bubbles but text in textboxes across the pages so that readers have many different ways into the story. The pictures, the dialogue and the set up text make these excellent books that will be read again and again.
