Hi.

No More Plastic

No More Plastic

Plastic has become a scourge to the planet. If you have watched any documentaries about ocean life lately then you have probably seen the huge islands of plastic garbage floating around in the water. No More Plastic by Alma Fullerton highlights the problem with plastic garbage in an easy to understand and actionable way.

Isley lives near the ocean and loves the sounds she hears everyday until one day those sounds are heartbreaking. A whale has washed up on shore dying from ingesting too much plastic. Isley takes up the cause of ridding plastic from her life and encourages her neighbours to do the same which they do until it becomes too hard. Isley creates a grand display to remind her community that animals are important and creating a plastic free environment is a job to do even when it’s hard.

Alma Fullerton offers readers a story that will spark creativity and action in readers. We already know that many of our readers are cognisant of the effects of climate change. Providing No More Plastic and encouraging them to think outside of their homes, into the community to educate neighbours and friends about garbage and the harm it is causing is something each reader can get behind. At the back of the book, Alma Fullerton reminds us that plastic garbage doesn’t just affect whales but all ocean life and it is being found washing up on beaches all over the world.

Alma Fullerton used repurposed plastic, sand and moss in all of her illustrations in the story. Readers will be inspired to create their own works of art using repurposed materials and there is no better place to look than the recycling bin. Educators and parents can provide additional inspiration to further their learning in No More Plastic. If you live in Toronto you may remember the Washed Ashore exhibit that traveled to the Toronto Zoo a few years ago. Giant sculptures created using only plastic garbage that has washed up on the beaches.

No More Plastic is a call to action for all readers to reexamine their relationship with plastic, especially single use plastic and to start making better choices for the sake of the future of the earth.
