Wednesday Wilson Connects the Dots
A total favourite series for The Bee and I is the Wednesday Wilson series by Bree Galbraith. We eagerly anticipate the next book in the series and read it immediately upon arrival. We just cannot wait! Book three in the series, illustrated by Morgan Goble is Wednesday Wilson Connects the Dots.
Wednesday is always looking for her next business venture and has planned to spend a day off from school brainstorming a bunch of ideas. Her plan goes off the rails when she is informed that her moms have agreed to watch Ruby Beautiful, former friend and current member of the “Emma’s”, for the day while her brother Raj’s has an exam. Wednesday is less than thrilled since they had a falling out a while ago and have not been close since. Ruby’s arrival, Raj’s exam and a trip to the dog park spark innovation in Wednesday, Charlie, Mister and Ruby and help kickstart a new business venture.
As usual, Bree Galbraith kills it with the newest addition to the Wednesday family. The stories are always so relevant to today’s readers but this one is especially captivating. Incorporating discussions about social media, make up tutorials, friendship and engaging with your community into the story keeps things fresh and interesting for readers. The voice in these stories is always so authentic, owing to the fact that Bree writes these stories with her two sons, who make sure that things are up to standard for today’s readers.
Wednesday’s businesses tend to always be a bust. I really loved how in this story, although things did get a little tense for a bit after the school showed up freckled on picture day, the resolution was one that left everyone feeling successful. Wednesday and her friends didn’t make money for themselves in this case but they did do something positive for their community which is kind of even better, especially for middle grade readers who really don’t yet need money of their own. I also really loved how the Emmas were shown how their actions are starting to backfire on them. I can’t wait to see how these relationships develop further in the coming books. I also loved how the friendship between Ruby and Wednesday was allowed to rekindle. It’s so common as we are growing to ebb and flow in and out of relationships and Bree Galbraith writes positive, healthy and realistic relationships that readers will connect with.
Morgan Goble’s illustrations, as always, bring the fun. Illustrated chapter books are THE BEST because they help emerging readers dig into a longer story while offering breaks in the text. Her illustrations are fun, animated and contribute to the telling of the story and her covers are always to die for!
