From Megabat With Love
A no more fitting title to the finale of the Megabat series by Anna Humphrey, From Megabat With Love is a satisfying ending to a wonderful story.
When Birdgirl seemingly develops a crush on an eagle, Megabat starts thinking of ways to remind her of how special he is. With Valentine’s Day approaching he tries all sorts of things to win her affection that all end in bitter failure. How is he supposed to win his beloved back?
We are so sad that the adventures of Megabat have now come to an end. He is such a beloved character that has captured our whole family’s hearts. The Megabat series has been what we have all enjoyed from the adult to the teenager to the middle grader. Anna Humphrey has created a fictional character that just lands right in the feels and takes up space.
In this last installment, readers are once again treated to some pretty hilarious shenanigans and a lot of heart. It’s so wonderful to see all of the kindness throughout the story. From the Bird Scout troop coming together to help their neighbours at the retirement village to Megabat learning a little more about love and affection. Megabat’s voice is, once again, very distinct and makes the story so much fun for middle grade readers. I love how this story shows readers how to be kind and caring community members and will perhaps give them a little inspiration for things they can do in their own lives.
The illustrations by Kris Easler are, of course, brilliant and contribute to the humour and shenanigans of the story. There is so much joy throughout the pictures and they help the readers connect to the story in more than just one way.
